The business district.
Highlights: The smallest of the districts. Here stands the former stock exchange - Palais de la Bourse and the National Library. Also the district with the most Galeries and Passages: Colbert, Vivienne, Panoramas, Ponceau, etc.

Northern part of Marais
Highlights: Very small but trendy, art-filled neighborhood. Together with the 4th district forms the historical Marais, Paris´oldest neighborhood. Picasso Museum, National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts. Former Jewish quarter.

The very heart of medieval Paris
Highlights: Well known for charming streets, cafés and shops. Notre-Dame, Sainte-Chapelle, Centre Pompidou, Place des Vosges and the Hôtel de Ville - the Town Hall.

Commonly known as `Quartier Latin´.
Highlights: One of the liveliest parts of the city, intellectual and bohemian. Home of the renowned Sorbonne. In the Panthéon many of France´s most esteemed minds are buried. See also Jardin des Plantes - Botanical Garden and Arena of Lutetia - Roman theatre.

The most glamorous district in Paris.
Highlights: The Champs-Élysées, the most famous boulevard in the world, goes through the district from Place de la Concorde up to the Arc de Triomphe. See also the Grand and the Petit Palais, Madeleine church and Monceau park.

The sophisticated district and Pigalle, the red light district.
Highlights: The elegant Palais Garnier, the Opera house, surrounded by avenues and boulevards. Close by stands the Galeries Lafayette. And then up north, Pigalle, strip clubs and the Moulin Rouge.

Very edgy and diverse area, yet mostly residential.

Residential and green
Highlights: Besides being the home of the Opera de la Bastille, this mostly residential district offers two parks: the huge Bois de Vincennes and Bercy, which also shelters art galleries, cafés and restaurants. See also the historic Gare de Lyon.

Amazing library and Chinatown
Highlights: Bibliothèque nationale de France, the ultramodern library is the main landmark of this district. Also the immense Chinatown. It is a mainly residential area but a brand new business district was built here.

District dominated by Montparnasse
Highlights: Montparnasse in the North was home to several artists, Hemingway included. See the Catacombs, the Observatory; Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris, traditionally known for its lively cafés and restaurants and Parc Montsouris.
Transport: Regional trains, M4 and M6 metro lines, station Denfert-Rochereau; M4, M6, M12 and M13, Montparnasse - Bienvenue.
The largest in area and population. Also hosts Montparnasse.
Highlights: The largest of the 20 arrondissements in Paris, both in size and population. The skyscraper Tour Maine Montparnasse is located here. Also the exhibition center of Porte de Versailles. See also Parc André Citroën.

Where the rich and famous live.
Highlights: The highlights would be the huge park Bois de Boulogne and the Trocadero. This very exclusive district is mostly residential, though it is also home of Paris SG football club and the tennis French Open site of Roland Garros.
Transport: Metro lines M6 and M9, station Trocadéro; M9 and M10, Michel-Ange - Auteuil; M2, Porte Dauphine.
A very diverse area.
Highlights: Wide boulevards in the south near the Arc de Triomphe. The neighbourhood is more lively towards the north as it approaches the Pigalle district. In between there are extensive, calm residential areas.

Once Bohemian and with a village style.
Highlights: Montmartre keeps its looks of small town. The Sacre-Coeur basilica is here, also the Place du Tertre and the flea markets of Clignancourt. Also the red light district, Pigalle, and the worldwide renowned Moulin Rouge.

Ethnically rich area
Highlights: Two canals, the Canal Saint-Denis and the Canal de l´Ourcq cross the district. See canal side park La Villette and the ornate park of Buttes Chaumont. See also Cite de la Musique, the Conservatoire de Paris and the Cite des Science et de l´Industrie.

Mostly residential, with a cemetery as main tourist attraction.
Highlights: This area was sought after as residential area when prices here were lower. However, lots of people visit the Cimetière du Père-Lachaise, the cemetery in which are buried the sepulchres of innumerable famous people.
