Around Barcelona most important railway station.
Highlights: Really good location if you are on a business or shopping trip.See also:Plaça de Espanya, Mercat de Sants,Mercat de Hostafrancs.
Transport: Apart from regular metro lines (L1,L3, L5), at Sants estació you can get the train or bus to the airports, or other towns around Barcelona and cities in Spain. Also the station for high-speed trains.
Home for FC Barcelona football club.
Highlights: Besides Camp Nou this area is the financial center. Also the campi of UB occupies a large piece of it. Up north there´s the beautiful gothic Monestir de Pedralbes.
Transport: Metro line L3, main station Les Corts. Also tram lines on Av. Diagonal and trains that head up north. This neighborhood is very well connected by the buses.
Where the rich and famous live.
Highlights: High standard accommodations, big green areas and top view of city and sea. Parc de la Collserola is great for trekking and picknick. Science museum Cosmocaixa and Tibidabo amusement park attract either kids and parents.
Transport: Urban train L6 go towards Northwest. Several buses connect with city center. Alternative transports (Tramvia, Funicular) are good options if you are sightseeing.
Independent neighborhood with its own lifestyle.
Highlights: This charming district has a life of its own. Most squares on lower Gràcia are very lively with bars and restaurants. On upper Gràcia there´s the Parc Güell, the park designed by Gaudí.
Transport: Metro: line L3 - Fontana and Lesseps, line L4 - Joanic. Buses 39 and 114 go through the neighborhood. Other buses can be found on most main streets.
Green hills and quiet neighborhoods.
Highlights: On the other end of Av.Gaudí there´s the Hospital de Sant Pau, immense modernist complex that overlooks Sagrada Família. On the northern end, there is the Parc del Laberint, it is worth the trip.
Transport: L3 and L5 metro lines. Main buses: 27,45,60,76,85,102,185.
Largest outlying residential district of the town.
Highlights: Mostly residential areas, home for great part of Barcelona´s working force. Very multicultural.
Transport: Sant Andreu:metro lines L1 and L5, main station Sagrera. Nou Barris: lines L4 and L11, main station Trinitat Nova. Both districts really well connected with buses and also trains.
Stay by the great sea front! And yet, see the native catalan lifestyle.
Highlights: Huge district that goes from Parc de la Ciutadella until the eastern city border. Must see: Rambla del Poblenou, La Vila Olímpica and Port Olímpic, the Forum complex. Beaches: Nova Icaria, Bogatell, Marbella and Nova Marbella
Transport: Metro L2 crosses the northern district and L4 the southern. Tram line 4 leaves from Parc de la Ciutadella and ends at the Forum.
The neighborhood around Gaudí´s masterpiece La Sagrada Família.
Highlights: Besides the Basílica see also Avinguda Gaudí and La Plaza de Toros Monumental.
Transport: Metro lines L2 and L5, Sagrada Família station.Also buses can be found right beside the church and other main streets.
The heart of Eixample district. Fanciest area in town.
Highlights: Along Passeig de Gràcia stand both Gaudí´s famous houses La Pedrera and Casa Batlló and also most luxury boutiques and shops.
Transport: Metro: lines L2,L3,L4,L5 stations Passeig de Gràcia, Diagonal, Verdaguer. Bus stops can be found on most main streets.
The trendiest downtown area.
Highlights: Picasso Museum, Santa Caterina market, Basilica Santa Maria del Mar, Parc de la Ciutadella, Passeig del Born. Along the labirinthic streets hide several cool shops and boutiques. Also good restaurants and bars.
Transport: Metro:line L1 station Arc de Trioumf, line L4 station Jaume I. Buses stop on Via Laietana, Passeig Picasso and Av.Marques de ´Argentera. Bus 120 go across the district.
Fishermen´s old neighborhood, just by the beach.
Highlights: Barceloneta and Sant Sebastiá beaches, Barceloneta market, Aerial Tramway. Lots of fish and sea food restaurants and bars.
Transport: Metro: line L4 station Barceloneta. Buses stop on Passeig Joan Borbó, Carrer de L´Almirall Cervera and Passeig Maritim.
Medieval, narrow, winding streets. The heart of old town.
Highlights: Lots to be seen on this part of Old Town. Wander around and get lost, it is just part of the fun. Las Ramblas, the Cathedral, Plaça Catalunya, Colom, Plaça del Rei, Plaça Sant Jaume, etc.
Transport: Metro:L3 line, stations Catalunya, Liceo, Drassanes; L4 stations Urquinaona, Jaume I. Several buses go down Las Ramblas and Via Laietana.
City centre, former chinatown.
Highlights: Lots of nightlife: bars, clubs, cafes and cabarets. Multicultural area. Don´t miss: MACBA, Rambla del Raval, Botero´s El Gat, La Boqueria market, Las Ramblas.
Transport: Metro:L1,L2,L3 lines, stations Universitat, Sant Antoni, Parallel, Liceo. Buses stop on Las Ramblas, Av.Parallel, Ronda Sant Antoni, Ronda Sant Pau. Bus 120 go across the neighborhood.
Traditional district, local people and artists.
Highlights: At the foot of Montjuïc mountain, very close to the center. Great district for trying local food. Lots of bars and cafes.
Transport: L2 and L3 metro lines, stations Parallel and Poble Sec. Main buses: 36, 55 and 121.
Gay-friendly area, great location and transport.
Highlights: Parc Joan Miró, Els Tres Tombs, Sant Antoni market.
Transport: For Sant Antoni area:metro lines L1,L2 Sant Antoni, Universitat and line L3 Parallel, Poble Sec. For Eixample area:line L1 Rocafort and line L5 Hospital Clinic and Entença. Bus stops can be found in most main roads.
Sightseeing attractions seem to have no end here.
Highlights: Go up to Castell de Montjuïc to have awesome view. Walk down the mountain and see: Olympic stadium, Poble Espanyol, Fundació Miró and Palau Nacional. End the day by the magic fountains and its show of colors and lights.
Transport: A bus leaves from Plaça Espanya and goes to the top of the mountain, cable car is also an option to do part of the route. Also at Plaça Espanya there are metro lines L1 and L3, other buses and trains.
